The Wolf Lives in the Sekiro: No Defeat Trailer

Time for another replay of 2019’s Game of the Year

The masterful souls-like action game, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, is one of my favorite games of all time. There is something beautiful about the rhythmic clashing of katana blades with the undying forces of the Ashina clan. Today, an announcement trailer of an anime adaption of the game, Sekiro: No Defeat, was released by Crunchyroll.

The adaptation is being done by Studio Qzi.la, a small studio known for the anime anthology series Azuki. Kustuna Kenichi is slated to direct the series, and the original voice cast of the game is also expected to return in their respective roles – Namikawa Daisuke as Wolf; Satou Miyuki as Kuro; and the amazing Tsuda Kenjiro as Genichiro.

The trailer features Wolf, the shinobi, charged with Kuro the Divine Heir fighting in the game’s first boss battle against the main antagonist, Genichiro. Check out the trailer below.

Compared to most other FromSoftware games directed by Miyazaki Hidetaka, Sekiro features the most actual story beats and linear path through the game. This is not the first adaption of one of Miyazaki’s games, but it is the first animated. Both Dark Souls and Elden Ring have a serialized manga series.
